Vice President of Operations – OCTG (#26-488)

Position Summary

The Vice President of Operations – OCTG is responsible for the full operational performance of three manufacturing facilities, including threading, heat treatment, and yard/logistics operations. This role provides direct leadership to Plant Managers, with accountability for safety, quality, delivery, and conversion cost performance. The position also leads capital planning and execution, while driving operational alignment, workforce performance, and continuous improvement across all sites.

Core Responsibilities

Multi-Site Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage Plant Managers across three facilities, ensuring consistent execution of operational standards.

  • Oversee all aspects of OCTG manufacturing operations, including threading, heat treatment, and yard/logistics functions.

  • Drive alignment and standardization of processes across facilities to improve throughput, quality, and efficiency.

  • Establish clear KPIs and hold teams accountable for performance against safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.

Conversion Cost Ownership

  • Own and optimize total conversion cost, including labor, consumables, and utilities.

  • Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives across threading, heat treat, and material handling operations.

  • Improve productivity, equipment utilization, and labor efficiency across all sites.

CAPEX Planning & Execution

  • Develop, prioritize, and execute capital expenditure plans to support growth, capacity, and operational efficiency.

  • Review and approve CAPEX requests, ensuring alignment with strategic and financial objectives.

  • Oversee project execution, ensuring timelines, budgets, and performance expectations are met.

  • Track post-project performance to ensure expected returns are achieved.

Yard & Logistics Oversight

  • Ensure efficient material flow, storage, and handling across all yard operations.

  • Optimize inbound/outbound logistics, inventory control, and loadout processes.

  • Improve coordination between production and logistics to reduce delays and handling costs.

People Leadership & Performance

  • Lead, coach, and develop Plant Managers and key operational leaders.

  • Drive a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Oversee workforce planning, leadership development, and succession planning across facilities.

Compensation & Incentives

  • Oversee plant-level compensation and bonus structures.

  • Align incentive programs with key operational and financial performance metrics.

  • Ensure consistency, competitiveness, and performance-driven outcomes.

Continuous Improvement & Strategy

  • Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization in threading, heat treatment, and logistics operations.

  • Partner with executive leadership to align operations with commercial and growth strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field (MBA preferred).

  • 15+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, preferably within OCTG or steel/tubular operations.  10+ years in OCTG strongly preferred 

  • Direct experience with threading, heat treatment, and/or pipe handling/logistics operations strongly preferred.

  • Proven success managing multiple facilities and large teams.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing conversion cost and capital investment.

Travel Requirement

  • 20%

  • Expect ~6 nights/month travel
