Quality Manager (#25-461)

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (relocation available)

Position Summary:

Our client is seeking a QUALITY MANAGER responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Control (QC) protocols, and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives. This role ensures that all products, processes, and services meet or exceed internal standards, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. The Quality Manager will work cross-functionally to embed quality into every phase of manufacturing, commissioning, and delivery, with a strong focus on turbine genset packaging and high-voltage industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a robust ISO-compliant QMS tailored to turbine genset manufacturing and energy sector standards.

  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and managing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Maintain documentation control, traceability, and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.

  • Ensure continuous alignment of QMS with evolving industry standards and company objectives.

Quality Control (QC) Oversight

  • Supervise all incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.

  • Define and monitor quality KPIs such as defect rates, rework percentages, and customer complaint metrics.

  • Ensure proper calibration and use of inspection tools and equipment.

  • Lead the QC team in executing inspection protocols and maintaining high product integrity.

Continuous Improvement (CI) Initiatives

  • Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies to improve operational efficiency and product quality.

  • Facilitate root cause analysis and structured problem-solving workshops.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and cost-saving measures.

  • Track and report CI outcomes to executive leadership.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of quality professionals, inspectors, and technicians.

  • Conduct performance reviews, training plans, and succession planning for quality personnel.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and proactive quality ownership across departments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Production, Commissioning, and HSE teams to ensure quality is embedded throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Support product design reviews, FMEA sessions, and process validation activities.

  • Participate in cross-departmental meetings to align quality goals with operational priorities.

Customer & Supplier Engagement

  • Serve as the primary contact for customer quality audits, inspections, and feedback resolution.

  • Manage supplier quality performance and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.

  • Conduct supplier audits and collaborate on quality improvement plans.

Compliance & Regulatory Standards

  • Ensure adherence to ASME B31.3, API, OSHA, and other applicable standards.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and integrate them into company practices.

  • Prepare documentation and reports for regulatory bodies and customer compliance requirements.

Safety & Risk Mitigation

  • Enforce safety protocols related to electrical systems, pressurized equipment, and hazardous materials.

  • Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

  • Collaborate with HSE to ensure quality-related safety risks are identified and mitigated.

Reporting & Metrics

  • Generate and present quality performance reports to executive leadership.

  • Analyze trends in defects, rework, and customer feedback to inform strategic decisions.

  • Maintain dashboards and visual management tools for real-time quality tracking.

Internal Customers & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Commissioning, HSE, and Supply Chain teams to ensure quality is integrated into design, build, and delivery.

  • Partner with HR and Training to ensure quality-related training programs are developed and delivered.

  • Support executive leadership with quality metrics, reporting, and strategic planning. 

Skills Required - Technical

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality audits, inspections, and feedback.

  • Interface with suppliers and vendors to ensure incoming materials meet specifications.

  • Expertise in ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards (ASME, API, OSHA).

  • Proficiency in QMS development, audit readiness, and CAPA management.

  • Strong understanding of turbine components, genset packaging, and industrial equipment.

  • Experience with inspection tools, statistical process control (SPC), and quality software.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.

  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and instrumentation calibration.

  • Knowledge of fabrication standards including ASME B31.3 and API codes.

Skills Required - Non-Technical

  • Expertise in ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards (ASME, API, OSHA).

  • Proficiency in QMS development, audit readiness, and CAPA management.

  • Strong understanding of turbine components, genset packaging, and industrial equipment.

  • Experience with inspection tools, statistical process control (SPC), and quality software.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.

  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and instrumentation calibration.

  • Knowledge of fabrication standards including ASME B31.3 and API codes.

Education, Certification, Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or related technical field.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in quality management within manufacturing or energy sectors

  • Demonstrated experience leading quality teams and implementing QMS systems.

  • Experience in turbine genset packaging or oil & gas skid fabrication preferred.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications

  • Experience with turbine components, industrial equipment, or energy sector assembly.

  • ISO 90001 and ISO 14001 Certifications for auditing purposes

  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt)

  • Equipment-specific training and certifications (e.g., Waukeshas, Rosemount Certification, NOVas, BakerHughes systems)

  • PLC troubleshooting

  • Familiarity with ISO standards and quality assurance protocols.

  • Experience with turbine genset packaging or similar high-voltage equipment.

  • Forklift or Overhead Crane Certification.

  • Completion of a formal pipefitting or millwright apprenticeship program.

  • NCCER Pipefitter or Millwright Certification.

  • Experience in turbine genset packaging or oil & gas skid fabrication.

  • Familiarity with ASME B31.3, API, and OSHA standards.

  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Certification.

  • Basic Rigging and Lifting Safety Training.

  • NCCER Pipefitter or Millwright Certification.

  • Confined Space Entry Certification.

  • Hot Work Permit Training.
