Principal Design Engineer (#25-404)
Location: Pearland, TX or Lake Charles, LA
Job Description:
Senior/Principal Design Engineer will contribute to our specialized team designing shell and tube heat exchangers. This role requires deep technical expertise in pressure vessel design codes and heat exchanger standards, combined with the leadership skills to guide complex projects and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and analysis of shell and tube heat exchangers for industrial applications
Perform advanced mechanical design calculations in accordance with ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels) requirements
Apply expert-level TEMA knowledge to optimize heat exchanger performance and manufacturability
Review and approve design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Interface with clients to understand technical requirements and provide engineering solutions
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers
Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication
Support proposal development and technical sales activities
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum 10 years of experience in heat exchanger design and analysis
Expert-level knowledge of TEMA standards and classifications
Proficient working knowledge of ASME Section I and Section VIII Division 1 & 2
Experience with heat transfer and fluid flow calculations
Proficiency in relevant design software (RCS, Compress, PV Elite, or similar)
Strong understanding of materials selection for high-temperature and corrosive service
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
Experience with API 660 and other relevant industry standards
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, not required.
