Job Summary

This role is responsible for driving business development efforts within the data center market, focusing on selling mechanical/HVAC solutions used in large‑scale facilities. The position targets the full ecosystem of data center stakeholders, including EPC firms that design and build these sites, colocation providers that operate multi‑tenant facilities, and end‑user owner organizations managing their own data center infrastructure.

The individual in this role will work to expand product adoption within the mechanical and HVAC portions of these buildings by influencing specifications, developing strong relationships across key accounts, and uncovering new project opportunities. This position requires a strategic, relationship‑driven approach and a deep understanding of how mechanical systems are designed, specified, and installed within mission‑critical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the assigned territory and work with regional leadership to prioritize target accounts.

  • Build and execute an annual business plan aimed at improving specification standing, with emphasis on a comprehensive market‑box strategy across master specifications, project specifications, and owner guidelines.

  • Increase penetration within assigned accounts (owners, engineers, general contractors) by developing and reinforcing owner guidelines, master specifications, and project specifications.

  • Use Salesforce to capture, share, and coordinate account and project information with the commercial sales team.

  • Ensure smooth project handoffs at the appropriate stage of the project lifecycle.

    Develop deep expertise in:

  • Product features and benefits, account dynamics, market and product applications, and technical terminology, including material science.

  • Specifications as an industry document, including content and language.

  • Competitive products and their market positioning.

  • Build and maintain industry relationships with clients and prospects.

  • Stay current on market trends and competitive activity.

  • Use strategic relationship‑building techniques to strengthen connections and gather market intelligence.

  • Participate in local trade organizations and professional associations, becoming an active part of the industry landscape within the territory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or construction management strongly preferred.

  • Prior sales experience, ideally within commercial construction or engineering‑related fields.

  • Demonstrated success in business development, sales, and account management involving complex sales cycles.

  • Experience writing or developing design specifications is a plus.

  • Strong project management and communication skills.

  • Self‑starter who thrives in an autonomous leadership role while collaborating with a highly skilled team.

  • Demonstrates drive, resilience, adaptability, and a team‑oriented mindset.

  • Shows learning agility, creativity, problem‑solving ability, and resourcefulness.

  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills; able to work effectively in a virtual environment with limited supervision.

  • Willing to travel overnight as required.
