Position Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality, and on-time production. This role oversees production planning, workforce management, materials coordination, quality execution, and continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing floor.
The position plays a key role in balancing schedule, cost, quality, and safety while driving operational performance in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities
Production Operations Leadership
Lead daily manufacturing operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
Oversee production activities across the manufacturing floor.
Ensure adherence to production plans, work instructions, and safety requirements.
Production Planning & Scheduling
Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet customer demand and project timelines.
Align staffing, equipment, and materials with production requirements.
Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
Manage and develop production supervisors, leads, and shop-floor teams.
Drive team performance, engagement, and accountability.
Support workforce coordination across production activities.
Operational Performance & Reporting
Monitor production metrics including output, efficiency, labor utilization, scrap, and rework.
Maintain accurate production reporting and communicate status to leadership.
Identify and resolve operational risks and production challenges.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with engineering, supply chain, quality, and maintenance teams.
Support efficient builds and on-time project delivery.
Coordinate materials and production requirements across departments.
Continuous Improvement
Support initiatives focused on lean manufacturing, productivity, and cost reduction.
Identify process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Address production bottlenecks and capacity constraints.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7–10+ years of manufacturing or production management experience in industrial, energy, or heavy-equipment environments.
Experience leading production teams in engineered-to-order or project-based manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, labor management, and shop-floor execution.
Solid understanding of safety regulations, quality systems, and manufacturing best practices.
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting tools.
