Applications Engineer - Reciprocating Engine Driven Generators, Cogen & BOP (#25-453)
Location: Alberta, Canada or Houston, TX (relocation available)
Position Summary:
The Applications Engineer supports our client’s reciprocating engine genset packaging operations. This role is essential in designing, quoting and completing application solutions, managing RFQ’s, preparing technical proposals, clarifications and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance gas power generation and cogeneration systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and quote total application packages for gas reciprocating genset systems, including mechanical, electrical, control components and balance of plant.
Develop comprehensive technical proposals that align with customer specifications and project requirements.
Perform detailed specification dissections to identify compliance gaps and engineering needs.
Conduct bid evaluations and provide technical input to support commercial decisions.
Prepare and issue RFQs to vendors; analyze responses for technical and commercial viability.
Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely sourcing and cost-effective solutions.
Maintain accurate costing models and ensure proposals reflect current market conditions and engineering standards.
Support sales efforts with technical expertise throughout the proposal and negotiation phases.
Interface with engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution of packaged solutions.
Regular, direct contact with senior leadership to support financial decision-making and strategic planning.
Frequent interaction with partners and clients, ensuring transparency and alignment in financial matters.
Skills Required:
Internet and technology savvy, including a thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite & Microsoft Project
Experience in an industrial or manufacturing business environment is an asset
Strong knowledge of gas, reciprocating engine driven systems, combined cycle and cogeneration technologies.
Proven experience in technical proposal writing and cost estimation.
Familiarity with procurement processes, vendor RFQs, and supply chain collaboration.
Proficient knowledge of industry best practices.
Proven ability to produce high-quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize activities and stay focused in a dynamic ever-changing environment.
Experience using ERP systems.
Experience in estimation, design, and manufacture of power generation package.
Experience with reciprocating engine-driven power generation package is an asset.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or similar degree is required.
5+ years of experience in application engineering or technical sales within the power generation or packaging industry.
P.Eng. designation through APEGA or working towards it
