Manufacturing Engineering Manager (#26-526)

Location: Buffalo, NY

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Process Engineering Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the processes involved in operation of the mill and mill equipment.  In this role, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will oversee the activities of the Drives Systems Controls Technicians, facilitating efficient manufacturing operations across the organization.  This position has responsibilities for both mill operations and heat treat/finishing operations across multiple facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with operations leaders to set and assess project priorities for the facility

  • Review and assess manufacturing operations with intent to improve efficiency and reduce waste

  • Conduct root cause analysis on operational problems and breakdowns, making recommendations to address causes for long term improvements

  • Provides guidance and oversight in development and execution of plant improvement projects coordinating outside contractors and vendors

  • Assists the Reliability Manager and/or other plant with programs, activities, and responsibilities of the maintenance department

  • Ensures compliance with company health and safety rules, legal regulations, and guidelines, including EPA and OSHA requirements

  • Participate in regular efficiency and continuous improvement projects and work on project teams

  • Directly supervise and coordinate efforts of the Drives Systems Controls technician team

  • Prepare and implements the departmental budget

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Safety & Environmental Accountabilities

  • Enforce policies and procedures to establish a culture of health and safety.

  • Partner with Human Resource department when policy and procedures are required and recommended.

  • Promote and nurture a safe working environment to ensure that safety is integrated into every activity and process and encourage employees to prioritize safety in their daily lives.

  • Participate in JHSC meetings and communicate information as required in a timely manner. 

  • Participate in corrective actions and recommendations for future improvements resulting from incidents, accidents and/or near misses.  

  • Partner with Human Resource department with the development and implementation of return to work, accommodation, and modified work arrangements.

  • Partner with Human Resource on Return to Work and transitional work assignments related to workplace injuries.

  • Enforce waste handling, storage, and disposal to ensure compliance. Encourage waste reduction initiatives, such as recycling and reuse materials.

  • Participate in environmental and safety training sessions, audits, inspections, and reviews to ensure compliance with legal guidelines and reduce risk.

  • Provide information, instruction, and supervision to protect workers and ensure their health and safety well-being.

  • Liaise with the Human Resource Department as required on disciplinary / performance improvement plan matters.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, or equivalent experience in manufacturing engineering field, required.

  • Must have experience with Allen‑Bradley PLC/PAC Controllers

  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Five (5) years of leadership experience in an industrial role

  • Two (2) years of experience in project management

  • Experience in lean manufacturing programs and/or projects

  • Working knowledge or experience in a unionized work force

Additional Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain appropriate documents to travel into Canada on a regular basis

  • Must maintain eligibility to travel into Canada regularly
