HR Manager (#25-460)

Position Summary:
Our client is seeking is seeking an experienced and people-focused HR Manager to lead all human resources functions for our Canadian operations. The HR Manager will oversee talent acquisition, employee relations, workforce development, compliance, and culture alignment. This role ensures that our client attracts, retains, and develops top talent while fostering a safe, inclusive, and values-driven workplace. The HR Manager will act as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring HR practices comply with Canadian labour laws, Alberta employment standards, and industry best practices. This position requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on execution across HR processes in a high-growth, energy-sector environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Strategy & Leadership
Develop and implement HR policies, practices, and procedures that support Canadian operations and align with global HR strategy.
Consult on employee program development and scaling through business expansion
Partner with executive leadership to support workforce planning and organizational design.
2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Development
Oversee recruitment for Canadian roles including technical, field, and office staff.
Ensure inclusive hiring practices and strong employer brand presence in the Alberta energy corridor.
Develop onboarding, training, and career development programs to upskill employees.
Support apprenticeship, trades partnerships, and community engagement initiatives.
3. Employee Relations & Engagement
Serve as the primary HR contact for Canadian employees, handling employee relations with confidentiality and fairness.
Promote a positive, respectful, and safety-focused workplace culture.
Lead employee recognition, wellness, and engagement initiatives tailored to the workforce.
4. Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards Code, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations, Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) requirements, and federal/provincial labour laws.
Maintain employee records in compliance with Canadian privacy and data protection laws (PIPEDA).
Manage workplace investigations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
5. HR Operations & Reporting
Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS processes in Canada.
Partner with Finance to ensure accurate compensation, tax, and reporting practices.
Prepare HR metrics and reports for leadership, including turnover, absenteeism, and workforce analytics.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree is a plus.
Minimum 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
CHRP, CPHR, or SHRM designation strongly preferred.
Experience in energy, oil & gas, or industrial/manufacturing sectors highly desirable.
Proven success leading HR functions in a Canadian multi-site environment.
Strong knowledge of Canadian labour laws, HR compliance, and employment standards.
Experience with HRIS platforms (ADP, UKG, Ceridian, Bright HT, or similar).
Familiarity with non-union workforce management.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HR analytics tools.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Talent Acquisition: Time-to-fill, quality of hire, and candidate pipeline strength.
Employee Retention: Turnover rates, exit interview themes, and retention metrics.
Compliance: Zero compliance violations or penalties across employment standards, OHS, and WCB.
Employee Engagement: Scores from engagement surveys, participation in programs, and NPS feedback.
Training & Development: Number of training hours per employee, certification completions, and internal promotions.
HR Operational Efficiency: Payroll accuracy, benefits enrollment rates, and HR process cycle times.
