The role uses SolidWorks extensively and involves working directly with manufacturing personnel on the shop floor to verify dimensions, resolve design issues, and ensure designs translate successfully into finished equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design custom packaged pump stations and modular pump houses

  • Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks

  • Convert P&IDs, specifications, and equipment submittals into complete mechanical and piping layouts

  • Route suction and discharge piping while accounting for fabrication, maintenance access, equipment clearances, and system requirements

  • Integrate pumps, motors, valves, piping, instrumentation, HVAC, electrical panels, and controls into packaged systems

  • Create fabrication, assembly, and piping drawings

  • Design pipe supports, equipment supports, brackets, and fabricated components

  • Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals

  • Develop accurate bills of materials

  • Identify design conflicts before production

  • Work directly with fabrication and assembly personnel to resolve design and manufacturing issues

  • Update designs based on approved shop changes and manufacturing feedback

  • Help improve standard designs and CAD libraries

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods, including welding, machining, and assembly

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills

  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D mechanical design software

  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment submittals, and technical specifications

  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, piping, pumps, valves, or industrial systems

  • Experience creating detailed fabrication or manufacturing drawings

  • Ability to think in three dimensions and coordinate complex equipment layouts

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple custom projects
