Career Can Do Podcast and the New Work World

Have you ever heard the phrase “straight from the horse’s mouth”? The phrase originated in early-twentieth-century horse racing. While numerous tips would circulate on which horses would win races, examining a horse’s teeth was the ideal way to get information on its age and health. The phrase came to refer to obtaining information from a person directly involved or another such source of the highest authority.

We are all hoping to win our own races in the New Work World, to reach the finish line and win the prize of expansion and growth in our careers. What if you could hear from actual employers, employees, and job seekers—the experts—about what has worked for them and what has been the “secret sauce” of their career journey? What if you could hear examples of the tried-and-true methods that got these folks to their own finish lines, allowing them to win their own prizes of success and accomplishment? Perhaps such direct information could help you on your quest to attract that perfect employee or receive that best job offer.

As a career coach and recruiter of thirty years, I want to give you every advantage along your journey in the New Work World. I’d like to introduce my new podcast, Career Can Do, which presents such stories straight from the horse’s mouth. As a complement to all the great articles, podcasts, and interviews The Price of Business presents on the many new challenges and changes we face, Career Can Do shares the stories of people I have met, worked with, and placed to provide you real tips that have helped others become successful in their races here in the New Work World!

Career Can Do will come out on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month across several platforms, including iHeart Radio, Apple, Stitcher, Spotify, and the Compliance Podcast Network. Megan Dougherty and the fine folks at One Stone Creative produce this podcast, delivering a flawless presentation each and every time!

Let’s take a look at who has been on the show so far and what we have learned from them.

Episode 1: Treat Employees like Family with Jessica Levine

The owner of an award-winning Houston restaurant with two locations talks about the secret sauce of how her company attracts and maintains its employees. Not only is the food at this dining establishment fabulous, but the service, environment, and friendliness of the staff are beyond reproach. This episode also covers the safety measures the establishment has in place and the many reasons employees stay and customers keep returning once they have experienced this great restaurant.

Episode 2: Have the Right Attitude with Svetlana Karakova

A candidate I placed talks about the many twists and turns of her career journey. We’re reminded of the benefits of networking as I originally met her husband in a Toastmaster meeting. The candidate moved to the United States from another country, had to get totally acclimated to a new culture, looked for a job for a year without landing an offer, and then took a temp job. Eventually, she was placed with a wonderful company. Even with the challenges of the last year, the candidate’s strong work ethic and spirit of gratitude have kept her moving forward in her career journey. Despite being among employees affected by downsizing last year, she was later called back to the company and given a different position, in which she is extremely happy.

I am very grateful to be able to contribute to the long-running Price of Business and its expanded platforms. The Career Can Do podcast is just one more way for me to share valuable tips for everyone involved in the New Work World. I hope you will join me and tune into Career Can Do the next time you are searching for an upbeat and informative podcast from which you can glean tips to help you become more successful in all your career endeavors!
